03/24/11 Weekly Photo Challenge: Spring

This week’s photo challenge at The Daily Post is Spring. We’ve had three days of grey skies and occasional rain; cooler temperatures too so it feels-and looks-more like winter. Less than inspiring for spring photos.

These two shots were taken at last year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival, the first time we went since moving here. The trees are gorgeous, and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area during bloom time!

  1. Hi Theresa, I’d like to encourage you to take your camera out to the yard, find something “spring-like” to focus on, and snap away! Use your mind to capture the BLACK and WHITE images on a dreary day rather than the colorful beauty of spring. Now it the perfect time to see the world of spring without the bright colors. Your goal in this type of light, is to bring to life the textures of spring!
When you process your photos, change the photos to Black and White or sepia tones! Adjust the contrast, tweak the exposure. It’s fun! And you will actually begin to see where photography will go from here! So much to learn, so much to enjoy… even B&W images can bring such a joy of light and texture to your eye!
I enjoy spring in DC…. nothing like the brilliant hues of greens, pink and the rough textures of the bark, the buildings…oh, I love Washington DC. 🙂

    • I feel like a jerk, I forgot to tell you, I enjoyed the photos you posted of DC!
I especially enjoy the Washington Monument, the composition you’ve used, the foreground, and the beauty of the monument it’s self is captivating!

    • I really just need a kick in the butt to actually get out there! I’m a big fan of black & white photos…for a while it seemed like every other shot was getting transferred to B & W; lately I haven’t done any. Guess I need to find some balance 😉

  2. That bottom picture of the Washington Monument is STUNNING! I’m forwarding this to my husband, who is a D.C. addict and will LOVE IT. I’ve always wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Washington, maybe one day I’ll get there! (Meanwhile, it’s SNOWING here today! So much for spring in Canada!)

    • I’m originally from Michigan and lived in Ontario for one winter & spring so I know the feeling of snow this time of year. I hope your husband enjoyed the pic!

  3. If you truly took those photo’s Theresa you need to keep doing it as you are very talented. I am a Harley BUFF and love to ride! I use to do it every weekend for years but as a single mom eventually I had to give it all up to support my daughter. UGH.
I miss is so much. I am seeking to find my niche or God given one. I am 44 and in the wilderness as they say. Great post great Photos! Jackie 🙂

    • Thank you. I’ve always wanted to take a class since I know I don’t use all the features available on my camera(s). For the most part I consider myself lucky rather than talented when I get a shot like this 😉
