Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

Dan walking inside the Paw Paw Tunnel:

On Sunday we were hit by a car, about an hour away from home. It was a car pulling out of a driveway and unfortunately the driver wasn’t looking. We ended up on the opposite side of the road and it would have been much worse if Dan hadn’t been able to keep the bike up. At some point his foot must have hit the ground, his toe is bruised and the foot is sore. My right foot ended up between the bike and car. I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and have a bad sprain; I was sent home with an air cast and two prescriptions for pain meds. Dan offered to get the car or call a friend to drive me home but I had the feeling if I didn’t get back on the bike then it would be a long time before I did again.

May doesn’t seem to be our month for rides. Last year Old Zoom was in the shop for three weeks and didn’t get home until literally hours before we were supposed to be leaving on our big trip. New Zoom is in the driveway waiting to be towed and will most likely be in the shop for at least that same amount of time….

Newer Zoom/New Zoom 2

I guess it’s finally time to explain this post.

This actually happened back in August, I’m still kind of foggy about how it all started. Dan was looking at motorcycle ads, then we were talking about and comparing different touring bikes. He then found a 2012 Venture at Romey Cycles: great price including a five year unlimited mileage warranty and not terribly far from home so we planned a road trip to check it out.

When we parked (Old) Zoom in the dealership lot that Saturday morning I didn’t realize it was the last time I would see it. Went inside, saw the new bike…they offered us a good price on (Old) Zoom, got financing, lots of paperwork & signatures and we rode off on our first ever brand new vehicle!

I never did find out what happened to (Old) Zoom. Our salesman said the guys in the service department were pretty excited about it, a few of them showed interest. After checking both their pre-owned inventory and cycletrader.com for almost a month and finding nothing I hope that’s what ended up happening.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Mine

We did a 310 mile ride yesterday into Virginia and West Virginia. This is my view looking back on Wolf Gap Road in VA. It was taken by turning almost completely around in my seat, a task made difficult by speed, the twisties in the road, and trying to keep the New Zoom’s two antennas out of the shot (easier to do that than deal with them in Photoshop).

This is the first time I actually made an effort to get photos from this angle and definitely something I’ll try again.

Three Mile Island

We often see a lot of interesting things on rides. Saturday we were headed north in Pennsylvania when this came into view:

Shrugs from both of us and then a minute later we saw signs and realized this was Three Mile Island. That was quite a flashback…I’m not going to get into age but I do vaguely remember the accident, kind of an oh wow moment. It’s funny how at the time when things like this happen it’s all the news coverage but then they eventually fade from the media spotlight. After we got to our hotel I ended up doing some research because I actually didn’t realize any of the facility was still functional.

This shot was taken from the road; I was surprised at how close it was and what didn’t appear to be an abundance of security. I remember years ago my grandma lived in the area of the Fermi facility in MI. Sometimes while visiting my dad would see how close he could drive to the plant before guards literally came out of the trees asking if we had business there. Fun memories.
