I rarely buy toys for the dogs. They have two Extreme Kongs that I fill and freeze; they also have a basket of other toys that have managed to survive. That’s the key point though: most toys don’t last very long with my girls.
I’d read about different puzzle-type, food-dispensing toys but again wondered about the issue of durability. After reading Aleksandra’s post about these types of toys I decided to give it a try. Yesterday I was out running errands, stopped at our local Petco to see what they had to offer, and ended up bringing home a Busy Buddy Tug-A-Jug. I knew that Nandy would end up it with since since I only bought one; I also knew the rope portion of the toy wouldn’t last. I was right on both accounts.
It’s still functional, even with the rope in three pieces, and she’s kept busy for quite a while trying to empty the bottle. Now to decide if I should buy a second one for Honey or check into a different, similar toy…
Nandy is laying on the couch in a spot chosen to get both the most sunlight from the front window and the best view of mom. The sun is deceptive though: the current temperature is 32°.
Earlier this morning I got the phone call I’d been hoping to avoid: apparently the ‘probably nothing’ is actually ‘a something’. A bunch of words: Doctor B’s office…biopsy results…precancerous…30-40 minute procedure…as soon as possible…[pause]…are you okay? Am I okay? What kind of question is that? But she was kind and only doing her job so I replied yes and then thanked her for calling. How’s that for irony?
So I now have an appointment on Monday. Since then I started laundry, cleaned both bathrooms, vacuumed, tried to eat, paid bills, filled out some school paperwork, swept the kitchen, took a shower, caught up on blogs and emails, got a few things ready for the oldest’s birthday on Sunday.
The solar-powered pit bull stares at me with her big brown eyes: mom, I love you, come snuggle with me. She has the right idea. I will.
Lately I’ve been making an effort to cut back on computer time. No particular reason…the weather is getting nicer, kids school activities are getting busier which means more mom taxi time, etc. I unsubscribed from four email lists, cut back on Facebook apps. I still browse blogs and have found that quite a few people regularly do what I call ‘theme days’, such as Mindless Monday, Topic Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday, etc. I’ve decided to give myself a lazy day on the blog and starting today I will be doing Photo Friday. Yes, the alliteration is there in sound; I just couldn’t bring myself to call it Photo Phriday or Foto Friday 😉 Simply a photo post, whatever I happen to be in the mood to share.
Today’s pic is a ‘mom’s taxi’ ornament I found somewhere years ago. I’ve been thru a number of vans since then but interestingly this is the same color as the van we bought last year.
